Jesus Arias with Joe Strummer during the latter’s ‘disappearance’ in the 1980s when he removed to Granada
Tymon will be joining Youth at the Portobello Festival for some unspecified musical shenanigans… should be interesting!!!
Here are some details about the weekend’s events:
New Roots events are run by the amazing Rory Carlisle of The Glad fame
What a fantastic bill… Gentlefolk and John Crow (aka Constable)… plus our very own Tymon Dogg
28 Harrison St, London WC1H 8JF
Thanks Rory, Outsider is really looking forward to this!!!
Probably the best and coolest underground venue in Granada, La Planta Baja, was full on 1 April to welcome back the now expanded Tymon Dogg & The Dacoits – once there were three, then there were six! The band then played to a packed house at the lovely new venue the New Georgia in Almeria on 2 April.
The band then headed on down to Youth’s studio south of Granada, called El Mirador, to record eight tracks with guest appearances from Youth (Killing Joke), Dr Robert (Blow Monkeys), Solea Morente et al.
The band recorded 8 tracks at the studio Al Mirador in Andalusia which is owned by Youth (Killing Joke). Youth joined the band on the track ‘Wheel of Life and Death’ and Doctor Robert from the Blow Monkeys dropped by and put a vocal on ‘Something to Prove’. The band recorded a track by the late much loved and missed Jesus Arias.
The recording sessions were followed by an all-star jam involving all the band, Youth, Jota from Las Planetas & Solea Morente.
The future of these wondrous recordings has yet to be decided. But Outsider says they are ‘fucking great’ and should definitely be the band’s first album together…
The Dacoits are: Antonio Arias (Lagartija Nick), Tymon Dogg (Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros), Richard Dudanski (101ers, PiL, Raincoats, el Doghouse), Jota Jota (Solea Morente’s band), Juan Codorniu (Lagartija Nick).
Here is the list of tracks the band recorded:
Casida (words Federico Garcia Lorca poem, composition Antonio Arias)
Wheel of life and death (Dogg)
Chimney sweep (words William Blake, composition Dogg)
I don’t want to be poor (Dogg)
Nadsat (Jesus Arias)
Conscience money (Dogg)
ESA (Arias)
Something to prove (Dogg)

Tymon’s Spanish collaboration, the Dacoits, featuring legendary drummer Richard Dudanski (101ers, PiL) and Spanish rock star Antonio Arias (Lagartija Nick) will play dates in Granada, Madrid and Almeria. See ‘forthcoming gigs’ for more details.

Release date: 2016-01-12
Remember ‘Bitter Thoughts of Little Jane’? It’s one of my treasured memories from the Rubbles/Toytown pop era and it was Dogg’s debut single (at 17, as Timon) nearly 50 years ago. Half of Led Zep helped out. Future recordings included Macca, James Taylor, and Justin Hayward.
Dogg also recorded with Ian Hunter and a friendship with Joe Strummer led to numerous Clash and Mescalero recordings. But Dogg kept recording solo material and his latest is a gem of baroque folk housing protest songs with a Dickensian vibe, featuring his omnipresent violin, a splash of harmonium, and… a Gregorian chant!
Wrenching, emotional yearning drips over the pleading ‘Conscience Money’ and the sentimental ‘Time For Moving On’ and ‘As I Make My Way’. Dogg lets his hair down pounding the 88s on the Hunteresque ‘Like I Used To Be’, ‘Perfect Match’ is a phased psychedelic gypsy jig, and there’s even a show tune or three. An album of great songwriting, energetic singing, and a tinge of sadness.
