Jesus Arias with Joe Strummer during the latter’s ‘disappearance’ in the 1980s when he removed to Granada
It was Tymon’s birthday yesterday and would it have also been the birthday of dear friend and astrological brother, Jesús Arias.
When we were in Granada last month we went with Jesus’s brother to Visnar where the family had decided to inter Jesus’s ashes. This is the dreadful spot where thousands of victims of the fascists were shot dead and disposed off during the Spanish civil war (including the great poet Federico Garcia Lorca) and afterwards until Franco finally died (of natural causes) in 1975.
How beautiful it was, despite the chill of that gloomy cold soil, to see that from the very spot where the brothers Arias had dug down Jesus’s ashes, a strong green plant growing.
And how amazing that that plant was a hawthorn.
Hawthorn is believed to have been the very plant from which Jesus of Nazareth’s ‘crown of thorns’ was made.
Was this an affirmation from beyond the grave – from Jesus – that all does not end with our last breath… or was it a mere coincidence?
RIP Jesus. See you soon!
Tymon will be joining Youth at the Portobello Festival for some unspecified musical shenanigans… should be interesting!!!

Tymon Dogg & The Dacoits in action at the Planta Baja 1 April 2016
Probably the best and coolest underground venue in Granada, La Planta Baja, was full on 1 April to welcome back the now expanded Tymon Dogg & The Dacoits – once there were three, then there were six! The band then played to a packed house at the lovely new venue the New Georgia in Almeria on 2 April.
The band then headed on down to Youth’s studio south of Granada, called El Mirador, to record eight tracks with guest appearances from Youth (Killing Joke), Dr Robert (Blow Monkeys), Solea Morente et al.

The band recorded 8 tracks at the studio Al Mirador in Andalusia which is owned by Youth (Killing Joke). Youth joined the band on the track ‘Wheel of Life and Death’ and Doctor Robert from the Blow Monkeys dropped by and put a vocal on ‘Something to Prove’. The band recorded a track by the late much loved and missed Jesus Arias.
The recording sessions were followed by an all-star jam involving all the band, Youth, Jota from Las Planetas & Solea Morente.
The future of these wondrous recordings has yet to be decided. But Outsider says they are ‘fucking great’ and should definitely be the band’s first album together…
